Sporting Iowa Futsal League (SPIFL)
Overview:
SPIFL is 10 weeks long, designed for 9U-14U (2011-2016s) competitive players and is a player-centered development opportunity. The benefits of futsal are highly transferable to the soccer field. What does it develop?
SPEED OF PLAY
The small space requires players to not only play quicker but also to make faster decisions. In futsal, you only have a split second to decide what to do with the ball before you are put under high pressure, this inherently encourages players to move on and off the ball, create space and support teammates to combine out of pressure.
BALL MANIPULATION AND MASTERY
A futsal player will have 600% more touches on the ball than a soccer player. This inherently helps players master their touch on the ball and will give players confidence to hold on to the ball more and take players on 1v1.
GAME INTELLIGENCE
Futsal’s fast-paced and continuous nature helps to improve a player’s spatial intelligence and ability to learn to read the game. A player’s head is always on a swivel, taking in information, anticipating the opponent’s next move, and looking to exploit weaknesses on the court.
SCHEDULE
The Sporting Iowa Futsal League (SPIFL) is a competitive futsal league where players' impact on the game will be tracked. The league is designed to put players into challenging, competitive circumstances with different types of players other than current teammates. Each session will have a theme.
Players register individually and are placed on teams by the SPIFL Director and Sporting Iowa staff, to create developmentally-appropriate soccer environments and challenges.
Divisions: Some age divisions may be broad-based, players may play in a different age group, while others may be placed in multiple age-group settings.
Leaderboards: The leaderboards for the week and the current overall will be posted weekly.
